Mask of Sanity - A Review

Mask of Sanity

Gameplay:    2/5

Mask of Sanity really surprised me, when reading and seeing the graphics on the Steam Store, this game looks really good, and for the price, even better. However, upon the start of the first encounter with enemies, the game's timing is widely off. You're in a small hallway making your way to your friend's apartment only to find they have been murdered and there's a random mannequin - which doesn't fit into the scene at all. Once you grab your weapon and a flashlight along with a few other items, the music oddly changes temp and you can expect that something is going to happen - however, nothing does, until you fire one shot from your weapon - this starts the encounter with 2 humanoid figures. At this point, you can now leave the room.

What disappointed me the most was the transition from 'chapter' to 'chapter' this wasn't a smooth transition that made sense in the slightest - one minute you are walking through the hallways of an apartment building and the next you see a screen that says "Thanks for playing" and then you've loaded into an underground railway station.

Audio & Soundtrack:    2/5
The audio is jarring, oddly timed, and sometimes too loud even though the audio adjustments have been configured.

Graphics:    5/5

The graphics are actually very nice, with some collision issues, but the graphics were my favorite part of this game.

Story:    1/5

My name is Tom Bailey. It all began with an investigation into the murder of a physician in a local asylum St. Virginia, which was coated with strange rumors. The investigation came to a standstill, so on September 14, 1981, I decided to go to the house of the victim for a second examination, but it would be better if I just left this case unsolved...
You have to investigate a complicated murder case. Don't lose your mind while you're getting to the truth. Try to understand, that every action has consequences

Final Impressions:    3/5
I was very excited to play this game, the graphics and the excitement of being able to fight or outsmart your enemies were intriguing, however, I had to cut my stream early of this game...I was just too frustrated with the jumpy controls, jarring transitions, and the lack of story explanation of why are we, the player, where we are? Where are we going and what is the end goal? There seems to be a lot missing from this game and if the game continues to be worked on I am sure it would be even better than its current state of being.
